Der Berliner Student Stefan war 2007 für 3 Monate in Brisbane, Australien. Doch er hat nicht nur das warme Wetter und den Strand genossen, sondern auch sein Business English verbessert und etwas für seine Karriere nach dem Studium getan.

Er hatte bereits einige praktische Erfahrungen im Bankenwesen in Deutschland gesammelt, jedoch wollte er seinen Lebenslauf noch “internationalisieren”.

Wir haben ein Praktikum im Finanzbereich eines führenden Australischen Energiekonzerns für ihn arrangiert in dem er als Treasury Analyst selbständig oder im Team an Projekten gearbeitet hat.

Hier beschreibt er seine Erfahrungen:

“During my internship I had the opportunity to be involved in a couple of projects where I was either part of a project team or the sole one responsible for the outcome of the respective project. These projects were basically concerned with the improvement of the financial risk management in the company. As a consequence of these projects, I improved my understanding of credit risks, commodity risks and other risk metrics that are apparent to an Australian energy company.

Besides the projects I participated in, I was introduced in the three areas of a Treasury Analyst: transaction banking, balance sheet management, and the financing function. In order to get to know these areas and to learn more about their links to a company’s financial and operational success, I undertook several tasks in these areas and was able to support the Treasury team in their daily routine. Furthermore, I was given the opportunity to join meetings and talk to employees of other business units about their tasks, experiences and current issues.

I definitely would recommend my host organization to potential future interns, as it offers a variety of tasks to an intern and a good link between theoretical knowledge, you may have acquired during previous positions or your studies, and the real world of a business organization. Moreover, the working climate was great, all employees were very polite and helpful whenever assistance was needed and interns are given the opportunity to participate in meetings, workshops or even external events (e.g. a presentation about the expectations of the GDP growth, interest rates, commodity and stock prices).

I want to thank Australian Internships for the provided services during y stay in Australia, as they managed to find an adequate position I was searching for and since any queries were solved to my full satisfaction. Besides, I enjoyed the intern nights that took place once in a month. They a very good idea, as they enable the interns to get to know other people, talk to their supervisors about any issues and get to know the Australian way of life a little bit better.

The knowledge that I was able to acquire and the experiences I made during my internship have been very helpful for my current position as a business analyst in an international consulting company.”
